What is Yoga?

Yoga is total body experience.

Yoga’s centuries-old practices can help you increase your flexibility, strength, balance and sense of peace – even at the most basic levels. Yoga helps to strengthen both body and mind and create a state of balance and harmony.

Yoga is not simply an exercise in stretching. It is a philosophy of life that teaches the individual how to achieve a calm mind. The therapeutic effects of yoga can benefit anyone regardless of age, beliefs, disposition and physical capabilities .

In todays hectic world, with its many demands, yoga acts as a relaxing balm, counterbalancing frantic lifestyles by quieting the mind and allowing individuals to slow down to savor and live in the present moment. Yoga brings greater awareness to our physical and psychological states and increases our ability to cope with daily stresses and situations , enabling us to step back and assess our reactions and coping mechanisms.


Preparing to attend a Yoga class:

Practice yoga on a relatively empty stomach. Try to eat 2 hours before class or a very light meal an hour before practice. Arrive at least 5 minutes early. Arriving early allows you to center yourself. Embrace the quiet. Please remember to silence all cell phones. If you do arrive late, please enter the room quietly. Yoga is a practice. Listen to your body. Stop if you feel any pain. Enjoy your time on the mat.

Definition of Oasis: 

As you walk through the desert of life, may you always find your oasis — a place where you can find safety and sustenance.

Although the literal meaning of oasis is a green spot in the desert, it can also be used to describe a peaceful area in our everyday lives. Perhaps your home is your oasis, where you can escape life's rigors. An oasis refers to a location, but it can also be an imagined place — as in an acting exercise where an actor builds an imaginary oasis in his or her mind. The actor can then remember the image to relax on stage. 

Definition of Bloom: 

Grow, progress, unfold, or evolve through a process of evolution, natural growth, differentiation, or a conducive environment; the state of being vigorous and free from bodily or mental disease

As you read the above meaning, you come to the understanding that you have found your place of Oasis at Oasis Bloom Yoga. The practice of yoga will bring awareness, mental clarity, harmony and balance to your life. Yoga helps you cope and handle the inevitable daily stresses and situations in life. It enables us to step back with awareness and assess our reactions and coping mechanisms.

A regular and disciplined asana practice develops a deep awareness of your body, breath and mind. This deepening self- awareness is the key to the process of self-transformation.

This self-awareness of our conditioned behavior then helps break the cycle by creating new patterns of behavior and helps us regain control of the direction of change in our lives. 

To be liberated from the effects of conditioning on all levels is the purpose of yoga.

How do we break this cycle of conditioned behavior? How do we bring awareness to our mechanical and repetitive nature of our mental and physical actions? How do we function with more energy and greater mental clarity?

We start with the discipline of body, breath and mind known as asana practice. Through the process of conscious movement, we learn to use our bodies more efficiently. Harmonious and efficient movement prevents wear and tear on our system and dissipates less energy. A quality of wellbeing becomes second nature in our lives.
